Another casualty
Was driving along last weekend, and saw a Boxster on the side of the road with its forlorn-looking owner sitting on the curb. I pulled over and asked if he needed help. He said a flatbed was on the way. He heard a metallic rattle, and got a warning light, and pulled over right away.
I gave an encouraging--but less than hopeful--thumbs up and a smile, and pulled away slowly.
Anytime, anywhere, eh?

but they'll get some $$ from the insurance company, while we'd have to pay for repairs or a new engine..

The ferrari problem is a recall for the heat shields. Seems they fail and car goes poof. Probably the guys who lost cars that way get new cars.......maybe......maybe not.
Too bad about the boxster.

If a small maker like Ferrari can do it, why the big German maker couldn't do it ???

I think a big part of the why is that we (Americans mostly) kept buying the new cars even though we knew about the risk. If their sales had plummeted in the early to mid 2000s when the warranties ran out and cars started tanking they would have changed their behavior. The thing is, most of those who bought the used ones and had the failures didn't necessarily buy the new. And those who did bought extended warranties.
