Default RMS repair

The local P dealer quoted $1,182 parts/labor with oil/filter change for RMS replacement. Sound reasonable?

There's a lot to do in there if they are dropping the gearbox. You'll "save" money if you add a clutch job. The cost is coming from the labor of dropping the gear box. The RMS alone is an easy job getting to it is the bitch.

Do the AOS while you are there. You may even want to look into the LNE retro bearing for the IMS. is it a c4 or 2? tip or 6speed? The seal is about 18$ so they are billing you 1150.00 labor... I would say on a lift it is a good 8hr job. Oil n filter is $100.00

Under CPO my dealer billed porsche 5.8 hours if I remember correctly. $120 per hour in my area.

It's a 04- C2. What is AOS? When I go forward with this repair I will for sure have the LN engineering IMS retrofit kit installed. From what I'm reading it looks like I'll need the single row kit. Where is my engine serial # on the car? With 33K on the odo should I replace the clutch? If so should I go with OEM?With LN engineering authorized shops nearby I'll take the car there instead of the P dealer.

Aos= air oil seperator. Serial, stoop down right behind the drivers side rear tire look under the car on the front corner of the engine. The serial will be facing you on a little angled part made just for the number stamp.

The price sounds about right for the RMS bandage.

The AOS on a low mileage 2004 996 shoudn't need replacing IMO.
Always good to check it though and make the call then.
I had a leaking RMS at 35K. I bought a new OEM clutch kit from sunset and told the dealer (car is under CPO) that when you put it back together to put this clutch kit back in. They had no issue with that. Only thing I paid for was the clutch kit ($530).

My car probably didn't need a clutch but the pressure plate made the clutch pedal overly stiff. New clutch kit made a world of difference.

I'll probably have the LN IMS bearing installed after the CPO is up. Fortunately they won't need to replace anything else when the indie is in there. I will have him check my AOS though.

with a 2004, It is almost certain that you have a single row IMS bearing.

Good luck.

I just got a quote today from Ruf in TX on an 02 Couple I'm buying...will do IMS retrofit, RMS upgrade, and Clutch for $1,700. Best to do them all once in there from what I hear.

I did my clutch with an RMS repair/update at 40k.

Nothing against dealers, but their labor and parts prices are generally higher. If there are good local shops that do the LN update why not at least get a quote from them?

Price is very reasonable if they include the parts

If not, what kind of prices are they quoting you for parts?

LNE IMS is roughly $695, RMS seal..?? ($50),...oil change ( $75-80)...clutch ?? (couple hundo)

then approx 8-10 hours labor....

heck, you just bought a car from them...they could extend some service dept. courtesy...

Bonus, If they'll inspect condition of the coolant hoses, AOS, any and all components while the car is up and plastic panels are off.
If you bring them some donuts, coffee, bagels...they may even let you take a peek at the work....

I thought that seemed a bit low...but talked with Sven from Ruf. I am flying to NV to pick up car next Monday and driving it back to TX.

Said it was 1680 for parts and labor. He initially didn't quote RMS, but said part was $20 and extra hour for labor...but still...seems pretty low given clutch kit is $600 and IMS bearing is $550. Perhaps they were figuring only 6 hours of labor...?

Got a few additional indy quotes...more around $2200 - $2500. The $2500 quote was for oil separator as well. Doesn't need it, but they recommend due to trouble spot. Haven't heard of that yet...

That sounds like a very good deal to me if parts are included.
