Default Production Number Documentation

I was wondering if there is any documentation I could get from Porsche that would give me the production numbers of my specific 996? Thanks.

Do a search on this forum for "996 Companion" Excellent book with all that sort of data.

If you can be a bit more specific, there are several of us here that can get you what you need.

First step is to identify the number of 2003 C4 CABs produced by PAG. That number is 2930.

Sorry but I don't know what a Kardex is.

Oh wow that is much less than i figured. What would the next step be in order to break it out into the color combination and options? Thanks again!

That's going to be a bit more difficult. Not sure how to sort by color combo. FYI....that number was worldwide sales reported by Porsche AG. Obviously the US market is only a fraction of that. PCNA would have those figures.

To expand on that just a tiny bit more, originally Porsche AG kept a hard copy paper record of every car sold, the color, serial numbers, and options. Back in the 1940's, 1950's, and early 1960's, computers were not used because they didn't exist. This card ("kard") was filed and saved in a system called the Kardex System. One could request a copy directly from the factory.

In the past 40-some years they have been using computers for this process. One can contact the factory directly via their webite (www.Porsche.com) and request and pay for a document called the Certificate of Authenticity. This document details your cars configuration. It is a fun item to have. The website details the procedure and the cost.

As has been stated above, there is limited information publicly published by the factory as to the number of cars produced in specific color and option configurations. When you are building 100,000 cars a year, many of them with personalized options, and meeting over 100 different countries rules and laws, it may seem to them as cost-inefficient to make available the kind of charts you are seeking. But some folks here have access to some limited general sales data like that.

If your car was originally ordered by a dealer, it may have colors and options that were particularly popular that year.

Thanks for all the help guys! I actually do have the certificate of authenticity for the car, it is a neat piece to have but it doesn't state any production numbers. I will see what i can dig up when it comes to these numbers. Thanks again for all the help.

I have a 2004 996 Aero (Factory installed option XAA). Any way to find out how many were produced? I know the Aero kit was not an option in 2002, so the only MKII 996's with Aero kits (factory optioned) would have been just 2003 & 2004.. I would think a MKII 996 Aero would then be pretty rare?
