If you note the Porsche approval letter that gets sent to the oil supplier (last page of the article):

This approval will expire before the end of the above mentioned period:

- if the approval formulation has been changed
- if negative field results are recorded

- for any reason Porsche deems necessary
If there was a formulation change to M1 0W-40, then they would have to go through the approval process again or it would not longer be on the Porsche approval list.

I can read the TSB but the TSB doesn't mention my actual conditions, being a very high mileage car in a hot humid weather but thanks anyways...

If you've got this far on M1 0W-40 w/o any issue and your 996 runs like a champ, then why do you think you need to change brands (and/or oil weight)?

My indy uses Shell Helix Synthetic 5W-40 in my car. And I do an oil change every 6 months.
