I used to think CPO were too expensive, now I think it is the way to go for any purchase. Direct to owner will save you at most $3-5k, I think it is money well spent to go with CPO and if you keep the car to get a full extended warranty as far as it is possible.

I am afraid that the higher cost of extended warranty for older models will only push the depreciation of those model further down... I have not seen any 99' model for less than 15k, but I assume we have to get ready for 10k value within a year or two. At least at that price the IMS cost will definitely be baked in :S

Philooo, I don't think we'll continue to see the depreciation that had been experienced around 2006-2008 out of 996s anymore, they're now 10+ years old for the earlier ones. I stay abreast of the market, because I switch cars rather often. From my perspective over the course of the last 2 years, values have been rather steady. I wish they would come down more, I would love to add another GT3 or turbo, or a track beater (and availability of parts would improve with cheaper prices for whole cars), alas looking at the numbers (though I only look at manual transmission coupes), anything's hardly different than last year. I had wanted an MK2 for some time, but -unfortunately for me- prices on them didn't come down over the last two years that I had an MK1...

I received a phone call about 5 months ago on the same topic.. It was from a Porsche Owner who is a major share holder in an insurance company. I am pretty sure he went forward with it.
