the "newer" IMS is HUGE compared to the old ones... (though still not proven to be any better) and because of the size of the hole in the case, it wont fit thru it anymore... so NO you cannot just "change it" however you can reach in there and pull the seal ring off which allows new engine oil to lubricate the bearing...
Cost = the same as an IMS job without the parts

Just based on your posts in this thread, it seems that this failure will always be in the back of your mind. That sort of thinking can ruin an experience.

If you can buy it, and spend the money for the new engine without crying yourself to sleep, get it. If not, look for a different car.

Coming from mustangs, I can tell you that I got an entire forged shortblock for my cobra for $3k. Thats a bit more than headers and mufflers cost on these things. Its just a different world price wise.

Maybe save up a little more and put money into a "new engine fund" or a xanax fund.
