Guys I need a short quick answer on a battery for my 2004 40th AE.
The shops down here are USELESS!
I have called like 4 - 5 shops (Goodyear, Firestone, Sears, etc...) trying to get the right information but NOT ONE has been consistent. I am having a bitch of a time finding a battery in Miami. From reading forums looks like what i need is an Interstate MPT-H7 which so far NO ONE HAS. Few have MPT-H8?
Sears says group 49?
What is the "CORRECT" battery for this car with a model number if possible.
I have an Interstate MPT-93 now but that looks like was just tossed in there and appears almost to big for this car. I want the correct battery which I believe is a Group 48 but everyone I call has a differenet opinion on the matter with no facts. I am just going to do the install myself as so far iwould not let ANY of the monkeys I have spoken with touch any car I own let alone a Porsche.
Finally, anyone know what size bolt the factory clamp uses? I have the clamp but no bolt. I guess whoever installed the MPT-93 tossed it since did not line up with the holes.
Here's "The Battery Thread" over at renntech which has LOTS of information. You'll need to join (no cost) if you aren't already a member in order to read it.
Put in a group 48 (make sure it has a vent tube) and you're good to go. It's smaller than the Moll battery that's OEM, but it weighs less and works fine. Going on 3 years with mine. Very easy size to find...even at Costco.

I went up to Autozone to get a new battery. A new battery was installed, but it didn't fit. Autozone's computer database lists the Duralast 49-DL battery as the correct one for the Porsche, but it is about 1" too long and the hold down bracket can not be bolted into the tray because the battery covers the bolt hole.
I told him that many on THE Porsche Forum (obviously I was referencing Rennlist) said the Duralast 48-DL (vented) was the correct battery. Out comes the wrong battery and in goes the correct one. It is about 1" to 1-1/2" shorter than the OEM battery, but that is OK, because there are two alternate bolt holes in the battery tray to accommodate shorter batteries. Gotta love Porsche engineering!
EDIT: Just saw Pongobaz's post above and we are saying the same thing.... get the 48-DL (vented) battery.
