Default Might have an engine problem

Had the 2000 996 out for a quick jaunt today.
After it sat in the garage, I noticed a "green" fluid dripping from the driver's side tailpipe.
Felt kinda slippery.
Car ran fine, no loss of power.
Am I about to find out if my aftermarket warranty is worth the paper it is printed on?

do you have green or pink coolant? If its green then i would suspect its coolant from the exhaust pipe..

Coolant dripping out the tailpipe is usually a result of a slipped or cracked cylinder sleeve. This is not good. A CEL may come on and if bad enough will start flashing. Also if the crack is bad enough to cause a chunk to be broken out, seepage will turn into a gush at which point the car will lose power to that cylinder and a cloud of steam will come from the tailpipe.

GL!

Let's not panic here!!!
Most likely just leaking from cracked coolant tank, or faulty coolant cap etc......

The OP says the car is running fine after all. Look for the simple stuff first!!

dripping from......the inside, or the outside of the pipe... thats all that matters

IIRC the normal sleeve to have issues is #4 which is passenger side, the normal drivers side leak is coolant expansioon tank...

how much coolant?
check the level
get it fixed PROMPTLY... no driving around
I am on the fence of having it towed in or not... I am begining to leann more towards the towing side after what I have been seeing come thru the doors... too many times a small problem when driven causes a MUCH bigger one

classic case of cracked coolant tank.... only leaks when tank is pressurized and after you shut the car off. Is your tank yellowish in color?

Several things it could be...The cracked cylinder head failure has been the leading MOF of the summer of 2010. Don't start it again until a competent M96 tech can look at the symptoms. Check the oil for coolant and the coolant for oil intermix.

I have sooty burn marks on my exhaust tips. Why does this always happen to me?

Coolant tank leak or coolant leak. Or possibly a leak from the AOS. These engines suffer from these kinds of leaks more often than they suffer from some cylinder, block or head failure that results in coolant making it into the engine.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I'm thinking coolant tank and/or cap which are on the drivers side. When mine let go I had a major puddle of green on the garage floor on the drivers side. Eliminate that first.

Had the same problem. Cracked coolant expansion tank. Coolant dripped down, hits the driver side tailpipe and gives the look like it is coming from the pipe which it isn't. Look up under and you will see the trail of coolant dripping down.

the producer is prizm, do not know who the underwriter is.
all i do know is that AAA's name is at the top of the paper.

i appears that the green coolant might be leaking from the yellow expansion tank.
my extended warranty, while purchased thru aaa, is backed by lyndon property insurance company, st. louis, mo.
the administrator is prizm administrative solutions, inc.
anyhow, is there an up grade for the expansion tank, superceded part or what have you?
thanx for the tips , guys

Local Porsche dealer service manager tells me the best way to order parts for one's car is to supply the parts department with the car's VIN and the part is looked up by VIN. Porsche every so often changes a part number almost always for the better. For instance, if one sought out a new coolant cap the same part number as the one he probably has on the car he's going to get a sub-par coolant cap. With a VIN the newer part comes up.

Not sure if online Porsche parts houses maintain a current database of part numbers vs. VINs or not. Local dealer gets updates from Porsche every so often.

You might call a Porsche parts department with the VIN and see what part number comes up. Compare this to the part number of the tank on the car. Then call Suncoast or a similar parts supplier and see what part number it comes up with.

Sincerely,

Macster.
