Like you - I had a great time - and was exhausted at the end of the day - and the wife had some evening plans so we left about 5 pm. Thanks for that exciting ride in the Red Rover "No Rules" Carrera - it was a blast. You & your Porsche just remind me that ANY Porsche is a Great Sports Car. A joy to ride in, Drive, or just look at. Yours is a testimony of how long they last and still bring great fun to the owners. The whole DS day was a hoot and I loved making my C4 slide and spin (though it took deliberate effort to do it). The Autocross at days end was fun - and as far as I know I did not kill any Cones...

I think I have attached a few Pix of the C4 for those who are interested.

Nice Pics Jack....

I am glad you had a good time and your wife allowed for free time at the end of the day...we always have to remember the long drive home. I left the house at 5:30am and got home around 8:30pm...its a bit much but I love it sooooo much.

You know there is always another chance to kill a cone, just remeber to steer away from me !! I had fun watching your growth on the accident avoidance and advance slalom finding those limits and getting more comfortable with your new car.

take care and see ya around!

look at the stance, pretty nice! it drives very well thru the slalom, (from watching the outside) looks like its still soft enough on the road (I would add bigger sways, I forgot to check if those where upgraded) The exhaust is interesting...its Techart but "looks" like stock... pretty tame, a little quieter than PSE but has a nice tone. very subtle -

?how do you like your 'newer' Porsche Jack?
I LOVE it! This is a very sweet combination of a modern Porsche 911 and all the traditional aspects of a 911 Coupe. It is a bit roomier - more powerful - more efficient (min. 21 MPG no matter how I drive Excpt Track) - nicely equipped but not overdone with Techno Wiz. Many complaints I read said 996 ... Interior to Cheep - Suspension to Soft - Exhaust to Quite. With all Leather interior there in nothing Cheep here & with TechArt Coilovers lowered 35 mm it is very crisp handling - and as Ed remarked the TechArt Header Exhaust is not loud but mellow with a rrrrap at full throttle. It is all just what I was looking for in a Daily Driver... and maybe an Auto X 911... ;-)

Not sure about the techart suspension and if it is soft. I do know using progressive springs works wonders and wonder if possibly the suspension you have is a progressive spring setup. Anyway progresive springs are a good deal and they might get misread as being soft

I suppose compliant would be a better word than soft...looked sweet in the turns (flat and not much roll) but didnt look harsh

The Coil-overs suspension is quite firm. In fact the only thing I was not completely happy with was the "Giggly" ride on less than smooth surfaces. I however assumed some of that was the 9 year old Conti's on the car. They where "hockey puck hard". Today I put on new Conti ExtremeContact DW tires and WoW what a difference. The ride is still firm but now the tires absorb the road irregularities and I think it is the right balance between great responsive handling and a reasonable ride for every day street use. I will run these tires in abit and take the 996 back for another day around the Cones. We will see how it sorts on on the new rubber then.

Are these the Dry/Wet tires? I read some good stuff on those when a magazine took some of the top tires to the track. They beat even summer only tires others figure as the cats meow. Best thing is their price.

In the article it shows the stats of all tested tires and the contis did better in the dry than even some dry weather tires at over twice the price. The compounds used are from their european makes. Great tires and what I was figuring on using some time in the future. I don't like being worried about slipping and sliding in the rain. They are a superior wet tire braking and in turns.

Yes these are the new compound Conti's with the D and W molded into the tread. These are just one step down from the ultimate Dry Summer tires and compare in the "Max Performance Summer" category along with the $250 and up Tires rated "N" for Porsche. Living in the Pacific North West and wanting this C4 to be a Daily Driver, I chose the best "in the rain" tire and skipper spending $$$ on the N's. These are W speed rated and the fronts are XL load rated. I have the original 17 Twist wheels and it is becoming more difficult to find tires in this size so I was very happy with the pricing $146 front & $162 rears (Discount Tire). I considered the "DWS" version of the tire which was even a few bucks cheaper - but for real Snow and Ice driving I have a A6 Quattro with X-Ice tires. I will report more after the winter and see how these tire compared to the Bridgestone 750's on our 968.

Remember strange things are delt out hydroplaning.

The mag had those conti's better than the hankooks and some others. General and Continental just aren't mad on price stickers. They are hard core profiters in the tire industry since they even get government contracts. They have been around since the beginning so playing gay with having a price high is not their deal. It's just another tire the giants are putting out. It is one hell of a tire they developed in europe.

A W speed rating is just right.

I'm still investigating this, but my 2001 C2 is averaging 15 MPG in town when I do virtually no heavy acceleration, and around 13 MPG with spirited driving. You are getting 21 MPG regardless?
