S4s are great cars, but they're even more disconnected. Great for a city car, or a long distance hauler if that's what you want the car for, but for a driving experience, it falls short in my opinion.
Supark, that's a sharp looking 964. I toy with the idea of an earlier 911 on occasion but I think the performance/ease of maintenance keep me closer to the 996 for the time being. I'm moving to an MKII for now, sort of the opposite direction...

following up on this thread - ended up getting a black on black 964 Carrera 4 for a great price in cherry condition and my Topaz Blue E46 M3 and it make a pretty striking pair I gotta say
