Cars do make noise by just operating. An example that makes sense to me is figuring if I were the tires or drive train I'd be making one heck of a racket. Even super lubed and perfectly operating gears and universal joints will make noise. So....tires can pull the same trick of different revolutions they'll make noises on and off. I'd be figuring if its at different speeds the likelyhood of it being drive train between hubs and trans like the CV boot area is low since that part just climbs to higher rpms as speed goes up. Diagnosing over the internet is pretty hit and miss. You could check those rubber boots for being sealed to prevent a real problem.
