Low pitch hum/drone at 55mph
#16
Wheels did not feel hot today after a 10 minute highway drive.
I did notice today that the drone/hum is also audible again at 70-72mph. So for those of you keeping score, it is noticeable at 55-62mph, then again at 70-72ish.
Not sure that this helps, but I figured I'd mention.
I'll have it looked at soon

I'm not a sound engineer but I can say that the shape of the cabin acts like a huge megaphone for noises. Due to the driveline being all in the rear, the beginning point is small where most sounds will come from and widens into your eardrum intensifying vibrations and sounds from my experience.

Delayed update:
It was the tires.
The rears were cupped. My indy found that there was too much negative camber and toe on the rears from a previous set up.
An alignment and new set of Sumitomo's are all done now.
I appreciate all the input. Figured I'd give this thread some closure.
Thanks

OK I'm with you but most think it's the gearing or bearings so we have 10:1 odds. I'm betting $100, how much are you betting?
You're splitting? You're only going to break even.

I had a similar experience. Replaced rear tires (w/ matching Bridgestones) and didnt solve it. Had wheels straightened and balanced. No major issue but part of the process.
Ended up being a front wheel bearing. Part's are cheap, labor not so much...
Do the easy stuff, buy my money is on the bearing.

It's road noise a lot of the time. All surfaces make different sounds. Also all tires make different sounds. Alignment can even cause the tires to rise to noise. Some tires when worn down wheels even become unbalanced. Porsche might back me up on this but to check for any problems take it out on the hwy up to 170 and see if you don't like what you hear at speed or after slowing. My personal favorite is the autobahn. Number 81 Wuerzburg to Weinsbronn please. One very scenic route headed south. Did I mention wide sweeping turns of pure bliss valley scenery?
No matter what I'm making more money on the bet now. Can I collect on the bet now
One of the funny ones is concrete slab hwy. Heated they sometime make more of a rough ride. Figuring its always the same you'ld think the car is screwed up.
Please remember to check bearings by feeling the wheels at the hubs. It's saves a lot of money and diagnostic wondering.
