Default Pre-Purchase Inspection in Los Angeles

Hi all,

I am about to pull the trigger on a 996 GT3 and I am wondering if you would recommend a good / specialized Pre-purchase inspection mechanics around LA?

Cannot wait to be part of the family

Thanx a lot in advance!

Can't help you with your question, but I hope your PPI goes well...let us know if your purchase goes through. What year GT3? There should be lots of help in Calif. for a PPI. Have you tried a search?GL

Had my PPI done at Dutch Treat in Lawndale with Rob. I was satisfied and have been back for servicing as well.

Hockeychamp,
In regards to Dutch Treat, I was considering a car in SoCal where someone else had a PPI done at Dutch Treat. The owner of the car sent me the "invoice" from the inspection. There is little to no information on it. No mention of compression testing, etc. How thorough was your PPI with them?

Thanks

Default So Cal Shop

I would go to The Speed Gallery which is Dan Aspesi's shop in Studio City... I use him for my 996... 818 766 2321 or thespeedgallery.com

Did service for me, bought a 3 spoke steering wheel and he always has a bunch of race cars he's working on there also.....

Do you really need a leakdown if the shop has up to date Porsche diagnostic equipment? Or is that just a concept that hangs on in the digital age?

My shop spends a lot of money on the latest diagnostic equipment and assured me a leak down was not needed, based on the data they got from the plug in. I had already bought the car so it was easy to let it slip with only 40k on the odometer.

I would definitely take my GT3 to Callas Rennsport in Torrance. He is undoubtedly the best Porsche mechanic in Los Angeles and has a ton load of experience in racing Porsches. He came recommended to me my Joel Reisner of the PCA, who is the 996 PCA national tech advisor.

I second Tony at Callas for the PPI. Him and his team are top notch.

I would suggest you give Tony or Tom at Callas Rennsport in Torrance, Ca a call. They are the best around, their prices are fair, and the work is second to none. Talk with them and I think you will be convinced in short order.

+4 for Callas Rennsport. Hands down the most comprehensive PPI around. Not cheap mind you, but as the saying goes....

Another option if you are closer to Huntington Beach - Orange Cty... FACTORY WERKS 714-373-4828
Gary Topal [garytopal@yahoo.com] Gary did mine - but it was kind of a re-inspect - as he was the wrench that had installed new RMS and IMS Bearing upgrade just months befor the the car was sold. My favorite Wrench here in Seattle Chris, knows him and recommends his work. Tell Gary the TechArt C4 says hello.

I am bumping this old thread as I'm looking at a 911 in Sherman Oaks this coming week.

Is Callas Rennsport the best place (seems like a long drive) or is there somewhere closer to Sherman Oaks that is good for Porsche PPIs?

Can't go wrong with Callas for sure. I'd also call https://tlgauto.com/ in North Hollywood. Marco, the owner owns a 996 GT3 so that's got to be a good thing.

TRE in Van Nuys was very good to work with when they did the PPI on my car. Price was in line with everyone else, and they willingly checked stuff outside a normal PPI for me, since I could not get there to see the car.
