Default My good fortune of owning a Porsche

So, I pull into a restaurant today for some lunch, and I must have made a little scene as I pulled in because I couldn’t find a parking spot I liked, and I drove around the lot for about a minute, and when I walked in all of the staff working were looking at me kind of odd? I just guessed they were looking at some of the ink on my arms? Anyways I get a waited and I sit down, mean while I am on a long distance call with a friend in L.A, and I order and talk with her the whole meal and the waiter is trying to get a chance to talk with me, but I am thinking that he is just going to try and sell me more food. (I live in Michigan, where most everyone is about 20-40lbs over weight.) And all I had was a small sandwich and a smoothie.

So as I am trying to leave and I am still on the phone, the waiter who was about 19 starts to ask me about my car, if it was new or did I but it used? I said no, I bought it used last year and he asks which dealership, or if I bought it from someone? At this point I cannot tell if he is shopping for one or what? I tell him about the place I got it and he starts to tell me that he thinks that it was his Girlfriends Fathers old car? He says the guys name and I start to laugh and I say yes it was his old car, I know his name and address as I have all of the Paperwork from everything he did to the car. So I ask jokingly was “Did he beat the crap out of it?” and the kid tells me that the guy only drove the car to the Golf course and Church and that he really “Babied” the car and wouldn’t let anyone else drive it. The kid said that the guy took better care of the car then he did anything else in his house.

To me this was just a kind of nice side note, I knew the car had been taken care of, but it was good to hear from someone who knew the car in its other life, and I am happy to know that the last person who owned the car cared for it as much as I do! Oh, and one last thing, and I have heard this more then a few times here on the boards, the kid said that after the Guy had sold the car, he was full of regret, and now is planning on buying a Turbo this summer. I laughed and said, “Yea, once you get these in your blood, it is very difficult to get them out, not much can replace a Porsche, in my book, and from what it appears not in many other people’s book either. I don’t think of it as a car, and maybe this is just one of my “First year” lessons, but owning a 911 is more of a life style. You really have to commit to owning a Porsche, if you don’t…I don’t know why anyone would ever bother having one.

For me, everyday I can get in my Porsche and drive is a great day! I don’t mind any of the extra work I may have to do from time to time. I would bet that many other people here feel the same.

great to hear a 3rd party confirm the owners' story. You are absolutely right, these cars are special. Sometimes the price of admission isn't bad(not complaining) but the $$ and time commitment is another(still not complaining).
