Default Failures of JIC Cross coils

Just spoke to my mechanic - he pretty much called me an idiot for buying those JIC Cross coils. He says he took off 8 sets of them from cars in last 2 years - #1 failure, rod ends and monoball failure (they use some bottom of the line stuff) #2 strut shaft bearing wear (camber changes), China made, etc, etc. Says I should put PSS10 instead if I cannot afford JRZ. He is probably right - but are JIC Cross so bad?

Would be great to see how many of people here had problems with JIC products compared to how many are OK.

No personal experience with JIC, but was advised against them by Alex at Sharkwerks. Told me pretty much what your mechanic said, lots of failures.

I went with PSS10s instead.

I think their warranty/customer service may not be great either. At least, from what I've read from 6speedonline a couple of years ago.

I've read the same, failures.

6speed forum has quite a bunch of a happy campers who got those JIC Cross installed but I afraid none of them had JICs on for a long enough time.

Interesting, interesting... I got them for under $2K price which seemed OK but it seems it was another too good to be true deal.

So, still no one here who actually rides on those coils for 2+ years at least?

Well, you could get some of the $36 coil packs mentioned in another thread to go whith your JIC couls. Then your mechanic could call you a @#$%^&* idiot!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Seriously, I am sorry you got the JIC coils. Send Ed a PM, maybe he can sell them for you. Also ask how long it took him to realize that he should "ask here" (on Rennlist) BEFORE he bought anything for his car.

I have had my JICs on a 996TT for 2 1/2 years and about 17k miles. I did have an issue with a broken rod immediately (during test drive after install), and JIC was not too responsive. I complained alot on 6 speed, which is noted above.

I am not aware of any chronic issues, and if they were going bad en masse, there would be lots of screaming. The quality appeared quite good, and at the time were far superior to PSS9.

It does look like they are not favored today for some reason (price, or maybe the PSS10s are now better).

bilstein quality is best for street coilovers. you need to spend some serious coin to upgrade (ohlins, motons, etc)

All that is a highly subjective business plus a lot of stuff depends of affiliation of certain resellers and mechanics with certain vendors.
I read about PSS complaints pretty much every day - like, 'clunking' or even broken COs due to whatever reasons. Go figure.

Nice to hear that you are for 2+ years on JICs with no issues.

So you already bought them? Then why are you asking for opinions? It's either 1) you install them or 2) sell them and get something else.

What I do like about the JICs is that the shock travel is not dependent on the height adjustment, unlike the PSS9/PSS10.

I've had three JIC sets (993 and two different 964s). Apart from the hassle of actually getting them (long delays, wrong parts sent etc.) no other issues and they all saw pretty significant track duty.

That said I have JRZs now on the 996 and they worth saving up for if doing any kind of serious track work IMO. I also tried a set of custom valved Ksports which were surprisingly good- and amazingly good for the money. I have them (factory revalved by Ksport for street/DE) if anyone is interested. Cheap.

David, how much, what are the spring weights and how do the Ksports compare to KW v3 for a 2001 996 C2. Thanks.

that`s why I love this forum - a word from people who actually use the product is much more important than any 3rd party opinion...

thanks guys.
