I found snow tires (not studded) to be a wonderful tool for negociating the northwest slop on hills. My C2 w/o andthing special or any computer controls handled about the best of any car I have ever had in the snow!
Plus with snow tires you can get a great rooster tail shooting out the a$$ end of your car.

I bet all of you winter Porsche drivers get some interesting looks from those who believe they need a 4x4 SUV to survive the winter.

Here in the Carolinas every time it snows the cities shut down so I keep my summer tires on all year long even with a daily driver. Fortunately we do have a little SUV if things get real bad but they never have.

When I lived in the Northeast and had my 944 though, I did keep a beater vehicle for the winter.

No doubt about the comments I got last winter. "Why do you drive a porsche in the snow?".(Because it's a blast). Many have trouble when they see my 911 in the parking lot at the ski slopes, but some thought it was pretty cool that I was driving it in the snow.

I live on a farm with 100 yard long drive. Drove the C4S all year for 2 years now. Have yet to get stuck. Best winter car I've ever driven including a bunch of SUV's. Just the deep snow issue and getting beached. However, it's not for everyone. You need to realize how much fun it is to drive in the snow and be of the mindset that life is short so having fun every day is important. The older I get, the easier it is to remember this. Hence, I have a smile on my face every day 12 months of the year when I get in one of my cars.

Ha, as stated before - its the best weapon for the snow I have ever had...northwest snow is wet and compacts into ice right away... the 996 was incredibly fun and safe to drive (plus the looks while getting gas, coming into work or what have you were priceless)

in 1-2 days you can learn SOOO much about throttle steering too

Before Ed had the black 996 C2, I drove that car during Pacific Northwest winters including Cascade mountain range runs. It performed well on Bridgestone Blizzaks. Now that I own the car again, I intend to fit Nokians on this car for next winter.
