Default 40th Anniversary Feeler...

UPDATED 6/16/2010!!!

Bought the wifey a new to us GL450 last month and she keeps complaining that we've got it sitting in the driveway and the 40th is taking up the garage space. We've got a 2 car garage that only fits one car (too much other junk in it.) We've got 2 drivers and 4 cars so I've been struggling with which ones to sell... I don't really want to sell the 40th but we've got 2 small kids and the CTT and the GL are much more justifiable and functional than the 40th. I just checked autotrader.com and there are 10 for sale nationwide and asking prices vary from $62k (???) to $39.9k. What's a fair market selling price for a 40th in nice shape with 21k miles?

Sell the wife and kids instead .......

Seriously, I would think several factors are in play to find an acurate range such as bumper re-sprays, main. records, mods, mileage, etc. But I can't see a 40th in the 60k range???

Clean the damn garage out! We have six cars and 2 drivers and make it work. 3 in the garage, 2 in the driveway, and one in a storage facility.

If you really have to sell it, my guess would be somewhere in the high 30's if you are patient and mid 30's if you want a quick sale. A 996 that is not a GT3 or Turbo is just not going to be more than high 30's in this market. You can grab a 997 C2 in the high 30's so that's your competition. Not sure where you found one in the 60's but that is nuts. Considering they were selling them NEW for just a tad more than that back when they were SITTING on lots with 20K+ markdowns since they couldn't sell them.

Personally I think it's a great package.

Like Dell said, cleaning the garage would be a nice start. Do you have the room to build another garage? Plenty of land and red clay in Oklahoma.

List it for $65k so your wife know that there is an attempt to sell it.

Your pricing analysis is inline with my thinking. I found the $62k price on autotrader and I KNOW it's ridiculous. I know I could fit a 2nd car in the garage after a huge garage sale but selling the 40th might get me into a turbo this time next year!!!

Not were talking! The Turbo is a thing of beauty.

FYI....just got back from my dealer and they sold a 40th in immaculate showroom condition with ALL the goodies that were included on delivery (luggage, keychain, etc) with just over 10K miles and they CPO'd it for a tick over 40K.

As sad as it sounds, mid 30's is probably as good as it gets. The good news is for another 10K you can get a really nice early (01-02) Turbo

I hadn't noticed the Cayenne in your signature but I think you know what I meant. I'm on my 4th Porsche and I regret being Porscheless for a while and hope to never let it happen again.

Put my 40th on autotrader 3 weeks ago and had 3 good offers (between $35k-$40k) by last week. Car passed PPI on Monday and the new buyer is flying in on Friday to drive her to her new home. Guess the 996 market is picking up!

Wife agreed to let the GL sit outside if I replace the 40th with a 996 Turbo Tip! Let the hunt begin!

congrats on the quick sale! Did you mention RL to the new owner? Hopefully, a nice TT becomes available for your next purchase.
