Default New RMS and IMS

I picked up my car today from RUF Auto Centre with it's new updated RMS and LN Engineering IMS. RMS had a leak and the IMS could of had a possible leak, but almost impossible to determine if it was the IMS or the RMS leaking down into the IMS, as you all know. The replaced IMS was in really good shape. No signs of wear and tear, but wanted it replaced! FYI, car has 37,400 miles on it. I finally have peace of mind now that I have had them both done! Avoided having to put in the new clutch that I had planned on! It was still 85%, which was a pleasant surprise! Thanks Hans!!!

Good for you; now you can put some long term driving into your car did they also inspect hoses / AOS / valve covers for possible leaks?; that's the time to give those areas a look-see.

Yes it was! Refreshing to know that there are still great shops out there that will let you know you DON'T need something and lower your bill than putting it in anyway to make some $$$$$. As for overall inspection, they said everything was looking great! Now it's time to put new tires all the way around and use up that $500 savings and then some! Thinking Pilot Sports, but will take any recommendations for something that is less noisy and has better tread life than BF Goodrich!!!!

not sure what you use the car for, but a "good" tire at a great price are the Sumi HTR ZIII's (not II's)

do a search, plenty of happy owners - pick up 4 tires for not much more than what you saved on that clutch

Good to hear they're not all ticking time bombs.

I finally have peace of mind now that I have had them both done!
I guess that's mainly what it's all about...if you're losing sleep worrying about it, best to get it replaced. OTOH if there was no signs wear at all it seems likely it would've lasted at least another 37,400.

What made you think it needed a clutch in the first place?

Just did the RMS/IMS on my 996 at 35K. Once opened, found that the PO had put a lot more wear on the clutch than expected. (Yeah, I know, blame it on the PO....)

The question is, "What will it look like 40k miles from now?" more than "what condition is it in at this time?"

We could have put my current clutch back in and got a lot more miles out of it. But why pay for the labor a second time?

The clutch was just a thought since I have almost 40,000 on the car. No signs of needing a new one, just was planning on saving on the labor costs down the line.

Thanks Ed, I'll check out the Sumi's

I have got the Sumi's. Very happy.

No tracking here. Just daily driving in good weather.

I have the Sumi III's as well. They handle 3-4 track days each year. Just replaced the rears with more Sumi's. The fronts will need new in June. The best news for you Rob is that for the cost of paying $450 for some Pilots you can buy 3 of the 4 Sumi's for that type of money. A real good bang for the buck.

Would any of you recommend the Sumi's for a 996 that will see perhaps 10 track days this summer?
