Default To use spacer or not to use spacers ? carrera III vs 5 spoke wheels ?

I know the topic of wheels is all over the forum, but I can't decide between two set of wheels for my 2003 narrow body C2.

I found at similar price:

- a set of 18" 5 spoke wheels OEM (1 wheel shown)
front: 8x18 ET 50
back 8x10 ET 65

- a set of 18" Carrera III wheels OEM (set of 4 wheels shown)
front: 8x18 ET 57 (spacer needed)
back: 8x10 ET 58

As you may know the Carrera III wheels were made for the 997 so they will require space in the front. and considering I already had some problem with my shaky steering wheel, I wonder if the spacer can be a problem or if I am worrying too much ?

I have sets of both of those wheels. Presently, I am not running spacers on the 997 wheels and all seems to be well. I use the Carrera III's with Sumitomo HTZRIII for summer driving and autocross.

Granted, I'm a novice and I probably couldn't tell anyway.

If your spacers are hub centric, then the spacers should not be a problem. H&R makes hub centric spacers.

spacers range ini price from $300/axle to free

I picked up 15mm H&R's for about $50 IIRC then found bolts on ebay for $10 !!! the seller didnt know whatthey were and had him measure them - what a deal ! - got free 7mm spacers and the bolts ran me about $20 (again on ebay) - took about 5 months to get it all together - if you budget about $200 you should be able to pick them up quicker

I would look at FVD Brombacher. They are located in Florida and product quality is top notch. H&R 7MM spacers, for example, are produced to fit many different makes. FVD only makes them for Porsche. I just ordered a set but had to wait a week for them as they are filling backorders from Germany. They can probably ship them from stock now.

I like the Carrera III's better, IMO.

I have 19 X 8 et 57 Carrera Classics up front and they were fine w/o spacers, but once I installed 13mm billet hubcentric spacers, the car is more stable at higher speed and it does give the wheel a slightly better look up front. the rears are 19 X 11 et 67 and look fine, but I'm debating some rear spacers for looks; I wonder if it'll help handling?

I didn't have any vibrations w/ or w/o spacers. I have the stock suspension and stock ride height.

I got my 13mm set and 10 longer chrome lugs from ezaccessory on ebay ( no affiliation) for $100.

I run the Carrera III's on my 996 as well. The fronts would be happiest with spacers, but they're not required. I did have to reduce the width on the front tire slightly to prevent any rubbing.

CHSU74, I assume you got those :
http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/99...cl.-Bolts.html

very decent price indeed.

BTW, I hope it is ok to post links to those stores ? I think there is something against posting to non spore stores ? I just figured it would help everybody.

2000996MIA do you have a picture with the 13mm spacers ? because I was thinking to get the 7mm to get back to stock, but now that I think about it, may be adding 5mm of bling might look good as well

Just spent the last 20 minutes checking FVD's site; they have some great items... I would recommend their spacers / bolt kit...great prices...

I don't have a before / after pic.... but I can tell that before.. the front wheels were tucked in..... the look is better with the 13mm spacers..which is like the width of these sets of dots on my comp screen ........... If your car is lowered, then you have to eyeball if the tire has a chance to rub on the edge of your fender.. I don't seem to have that issue either up front or in the back...

Wheels look almost the same to me - I'd probably get the set without spacers and have one less thing to buy/worry about.

+ 1 for FVD. Got 15mm rears and 7 mm fronts for my c4S from them.
