Yep... not super common, but enough that if you search on it, you will find that most people who have had transmission issues have it with the pinion bearing and the synchro in 2nd gear.
Somebody on here mentioned one time that the trans case is only good for one repair job with the bearings having to be pressed in and the case not able to handle it for a second time. Soooo maybe use bold letters
The issue isn't with the case and the bearings it is with the gears on the shaft.
The gears are press fit onto the shaft. Current thinking is that you can only press them on one more time. Time will tell.
