Apparently a 2002 transmission won't work in a 1999 car.

I don't know for 3,000 to 3,500 you can get a rebuilt one from a number of places. For the difference, I would not risk a used transmission.

Where can I find rebuilt ones?
I have been looking but haven't found any yet. Plenty of 2002-2005 but none for 1999-2001.

Somebody on here mentioned one time that the trans case is only good for one repair job with the bearings having to be pressed in and the case not able to handle it for a second time. Soooo maybe use bold letters

It should. I had a 2003 engine connected to my original 1999 trans.

The issue isn't with the case and the bearings it is with the gears on the shaft.

The gears are press fit onto the shaft. Current thinking is that you can only press them on one more time. Time will tell.

Have you tried gboxweb.com? Give them a call. Apparently Vertex does them too.
