Default Great 996 C4S article in 911 & Porsche World...

There is a great review of the 996 C4S in the April edition. I just picked mine up at Barnes & Noble. It's a UK publication. The article actually states that 996 prices are beginning to stabilize, especially for the C4S, but I'm not sure if this applies to the US market.

Anyway... I liked the article, so I thought I'd pass it along.

Yeah, I read it too. They really feel that the C4S is among the most desirable of the series. Case in point, the Canadian dealers rarely have any in their pre-owned inventory and when one shows up, it's gone very quickly.
That all makes me happy!

Let's hope that it trickles to the C2 and 4's

When I purchased my 996, I opted for the C2, as I was scared by the potential problem of the 4 wheel drive system. Is the AWD system a source of problem in the C4 ?

I also like to feel the car 'out of control'

IMHO I think the C4S are too close in price with the 996 Turbo, usually for $8-10k more you can get a turbo so...

What is sure is that the 996 C2 are really a bargain now in the $20k !

The AWD system is pretty problem free as it is a very simple system: viscous coupling. Torque split is a permanent 5% front 95% rear. It can go up to 40% front, 60 % rear on demand. As far as the price gap with the TT, don't ask me to explain why but as the article suggests, the 4S is a more cohesive design and considered by many to be "...just the best driver's car of it's time" which makes it more desirable to some. Don't forget that there are the Porschephiles that sit in the normally aspirated camp and those in the forced induction camp so the price gap means very little to you if that's not what you want in a Porsche.
Pickup the April issue of 911 & Porsche World: worth the read.
OK, that should get all the 2wd purists and TT boys going for awhile... flame suit on.

I find the 996 C4S to be one of the strongest 911 designs ever made. Its merits stand on their own and this does not take away from any other 911 variation.

I'm in awe of the 996 C4S rear end. Beautiful. Perfect.
