Default Electronic Oil reading issues

Ok need some help. Have a 2001 996Turbo. Just took it out of hibernation from the long winter and started it up and this issue is not going away. I do the electronic oil reading. For some reason there is no dipstick under the cap. I click thru the menus and goto check oil and it fails every time. I took it to the dealer and they said the sending unit needs to be replaced and its 600 bucks. (scratches head) So I am wondering if its that difficult of a job. Any thoughts or DIY's any help would be great.
Pics for kicks..

beautiful car - smart to post pics

the sending unit is a part that rarely fails, but does. IIRC it is a long tube that is held in place by 1-2 screws so in theroy its an deasy replacement. I do believe it doesnt come out without lowering the motor though I could be wrong... and if you have to lowere the motor, I dont mean remove the motor.... just lowere it off the mounts (2 nuts and a jack)

might be a few parts in the way to get to it, I did not search recently, but IMO it is for sure a DIY job (however, I have more M96 experience than Turbo)

check the manuals on http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

GL and let us know what you find

Thank you so much for your help. Much appreciated. Hope to contribute. Maybe I will post up a DIY on this. I also have the wheels in the first pic for sale if anyone is interested. Car rolls with the HRE's now.

good !

this is a great place to sell them, AFTER you get your membership (required to buy/sell) and then you will be able to see the "for sale" section as well
