Default switched power source in dome light?

I searched... cant find the answer...

I had a bookmark before my pc crashed to an instruction page on a v1 hardwire to the sunroof motor or dome light

does anyone here happen to know what wire I need to look for in there?

thanks

I think in that area the Pos will be a light brown wire w/ a green stripe and ground will be red wire w/ black stripe. Or you could do what I did and delete or tap into the LED that shines down from the mirror mount.
(search Passport 9500 hardwire)

it is either the red of the green wire.... if you cut the wrong one the car will have immediate IMS failure.. No pressure.... Just pick one.

theres a wire but I dont remember what color. It will dim off after a few seconds you turn off key. It is the same wires as the dome lite that dims off.

Also semi hard wired the navi... major annoyance now resolved.

My 2009 997.2 911 S was delivered years back with a variable (powered) mirror by mistake. It was not connected to the harness and the outside mirrors were the standard, non-variable type. The dealer offered to swap it for a manual mirror, but I declined as it is a nice option I have had in two BMWs.

I've waited 'till the car was off warranty (OK, quite a bit longer) to fool with the electrical system and so would also like to know what wires in the front interior "dome" light area are switched on/off with the key?

Thanks

Why would you use a pick up from the dome light? There is a switched power source by your right leg. Behind the pull off triangular padded panel. Half of that plug you will find hanging inside, is switched as the ignition comes on. The other half is on all the time. I picked up the switched part in there for my radar and my GPS. NOW, Both the GPS and the Radar detector come on and off with the ignition switch.

Depends on where you need power. If you're putting in a powered mirror (auto dim, Homelink, etc) on a coupe, it's easier to draw power from the dome light and/or sunroof.

The A-pillar cladding is flexible, so I ran the power for my detector from the connector in the lower console as Hurdi referenced, along the underside of the dash above the passenger footwell, around the edge of the dash (between the dash and the passenger door, along the edge of the dash to the A-pillar, up the A-pillar, and inside the front of the headliner to the rearview mirror. No holes drilled, no need to detach any trim panels, and no visible cabling.

This picture was taken when I hadn't yet finished tucking the cord behind the leading corner of the A-pillar trim, so there's still a bit of visible cable... I have since adjusted the wire as it comes down the rear view mirror mount so it's more flush / less visible.

+1

I tapped into the wires by the dome light for my Homelink dimming mirror.
