Can the polished surface be recovered or is the rust too deep?

The fabspeed mufflers are 304 stainless steel. The reddish color is a tarnish or oxidation.......stainless doesn't rust.

Don't know if you could get the muffler all shiney new again though but since the only part you would see is the exhaust tip I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope that helps.

Pete,

Stainless does not rust, however the carbon steel embedded in stainless steel of lower grades can cause imperfections that are hard to remove, thus the question. Yep, hiding under the car most people won't see the shiny exhaust, but it would be nice to have the option.

You can polish them to very shiny again.

Depends on how much time you want to spend.

In that case Mother's Metal Polish and a buffing is the ticket. I used that on my exhaust tips.

As the others have said it depends on who much time you want to get them shiney.

so what do they do? Are they just stock replacements? do they add some sound other than my car sounding like a little electric motor back there.are they just bolt on? Will they work with the rest of the stock exhaust? Will they bolt up to the cats?

Good price. I bought a used set a few months ago and highly recommend these. Excellent sound throught the RPM range with no drone on the highway.

The mufflers are a direct bolt on to the cats.No other mods are needed.I had them on my 99.The sound is deeper and is much better than oem.
