Hello all,

Can anyone recommend the best place to purchase factory Porsche coolant and Pentosin CHF 11S power steering fluid for my 2001? I would be willing to go with equivalent fluids that are not factory as well. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I also have a few other questions if people can help me out with:

-My car originally had the yellow/green older style factory coolant. Someone had mentioned that I would be able to go with factory Audi/VW (green) coolant which is compatible with this older Porsche one. Is this true? It's quite a bit of hassle to totally flush out my cooling system to change over to the new "pink" Porsche coolant.

-Someone had also mentioned that I CANNOT mix the older Porsche green coolant with the new "pink" Porsche coolant otherwise sludge can occur from the mixing? Is this true??

-Is the factory Porsche coolant already "cut" in half, or do I need to mix 50/50 with water? How many gallons will I need to purchase?

-How many litres of the Pentosin CHF 11S power steering fluid will I need to buy? I didn't drain the complete system, just the reservoir and whatever leaked out of the disconnected lines.

Any help/input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks very much in advance!

Porsche is selling a newer Pentosin CHF 202 that’s compatible with everything except Pentosin 7.1 and lower.

Thanks! I checked with the dealer and that is all they stock now. The CHF 202 seems to be less expensive than the 11S as well! Saving a few $$$ wherever you can is always a welcomed thing!

My CHF 202 is down in the garage but I believe it came in a 1 liter can or abouts. I was only wanting to be able to top off. The manual should have a section on capacities of fluids to include the power steering.....I'd think.

Yes, I wish I had done this. I needed a small amount and ended up spending about $35 at the dealer on the only size they had, a liter.

Honestly i would go with the porsche coolant. I have searched the net for a correct safe answer to this. I used a 20& off coupon for my local p-car dealer. The coolant should be around $30 per gallon and i got $6 off per gallon.

For some reason i paid a bit more, but that is another story.


there are cheaper options but there are a ton of theories and reasons why you should stick with the oem stuff.

If you can get a concrete answer i would get the cheaper stuff.

To the OP: you can also get Pentosin at O'Reilly.

LENELSA: Depends on how much Prestone and which kind it was.

If its the compatible kind and just a little bit it's probably OK.

If it's the wrong Prestone (i.e. not OAT type), then you should have your system drained and refilled ASAP.

If you put a lot of either kind the whole system should be drained and refilled or it will jell and cause engine meltdown.

Next time just add distilled water to top off.

You can get both the correct coolant and the correct power steering fluid at any VW or Audi dealership as well. They are VW labeled, but are the correct fluids, and are as cheap as buying it at an auto parts store. I have been using the VW fluids in my 996 for years with no issues at all.

I researched this a while ago - you don't say where you are located- but Winchester Auto Parts in San Jose, CA carried the Pentosin Branded Coolant - if you look at Pentosin web site it tells you it is equivalent to the Porsche stuff. It is also equivalent to VW G12 (if I remember) - which you can get the at VW/Audi dealer for less. Just don't mix the wrong stuff together (e.g pink with green)

Look at www.pentosin.net for the Pentofrost SF (without silicates) info. That is the one to get. Says it was called formerly LIFETIME ANTIFREEZE G12 - and is for Audi 96-05, Jaguar 97 on, Porsche boxster, 911 , cayman, cayenne ;96 on, Saab 2001 on and VW after 06/96 and up to 2005 spec TL 744 F

For Porsche 2006-2009 there is PF++ with silicates listed _ VW Spec TL 744 G

You can get a gallon 100% strength G12++ at most VW dealers for about $20 as Orient pointed out.

Got mine from VW Dealer. $20, cant remember the size of the container. Needed it to use for the hydraulic for the cabrio as the top was not fiuctioning correctly.

So can now kill 2 birds with one stone.
