Default What the hell ????

Hi all,

This will be my first thread, it's not sexy but I hope it works.

Have been taking out my '04 C4S on nice days and found that sometimes (on colder days -5 to -15 celcius) when lifting the drivers side-door handle there would be a resistance and then a click like something broke/snapped.

It would open up normally after 2 or 3 times of lifting the door handle.
I figured since I'll drive it maybe 6 or 7 times before actually starting to use it in the spring I'd have it looked at then.

Alas today the door handle just gave out... 1 click and that was it, there's still a spring resistance but it doesn't connect to anything.
Had to reach in from passenger-side and open the (drivers-side) door from the inside, at least that still works.

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys!

Sid.

How long of a job do you think it is (done by a shop)?

I have not done it. I did read about it once as I was thinking of taking mine off to check the water barrier (I get air thru the speaker) didnt seem like too tough of a job, and re-connecting the linkage might require a new part ?

It's a pretty good DIY - I just used it to replace my door speakers... removing the door panels should be no more than 30 minutes or so - the trick is finding all of the screws. The DIY shows all but one in the picture, but he does note it.

Good luck!

It is pretty easy... just be carful pulling the trim pieces off so you don't break any of the plastic tabs. The hardest one is the cover panel for the door pull handle... there's a little plastic tab on the top, right at the point...
