Hardtop Size?
I just bought a hardtop but it's 350 miles away. Can someone give me some dimensions of the top? I need to try and get it inside my Suburban if possible. Can't drive the 996 to get it right now.... Thanks... Mark

What dimensions do you want? I can run out to the garage and get you some quick numbers.
From back to front is ~70"
From side to side is ~50"
From top to bottom is ~20"

From what I have gathered, there are 3 variants of pins and receivers.
I have 2nd generation receivers and a first generation hardtop. Updating it all to the newest stuff is going to run $700.

I am shopping around for a hardtop for my 2004 C4S. Shipping is killing me, but now you mention it may not fit - That's just an added hassle. And $700 for pins is ridiculous!
How did it all work out?

It'll fit. I've had Boxster hard tops inside my Suburban. Width will be the same. 996 top is going to be a bit longer. Just fold the rear seats down.
And yeah, bring lots of padding.

Just did all of this on my 04 C4S last year so i figured i would add some points. After a certain model year, if your car did not come from the factory with the hardtop, your car may NOT even be equipped to accept a hard top. You need to make sure you look under the plastic covers were the pins would go in. If it is a vacant hole then you need to order those parts too. My car had the Hardtop Delete option so it did not come with the hardware to accept the top. I went on ebay and found a salvage yard that sells the parts you will need for $100.00. The parts are extremely easy to install and the salvage yard was nice enough to supply the hardware. My understanding is there is only 2 options for the pin types. One type is a screw that you actually torque it to a spec when installing the top (suppose to be the better/quieter option) and the other is just a pin with 2 tabs that turns and locks. When i was on the hunt i personally found the pin type more commonly found. After buying a used/new top, paint and hardware i was in it for under $1,000
