Let's see, no lift, no enclosed repair facility with heat , lighting etc., no 'certified' Porsche training...wouldn't you like to profit the same in your business? Why so agressive in their pricing?

Because they can. Apparently, there are enough people out there that are able to pay the piper.............

a friend of mine takes her 993 to the dealer.... trust me $1100 for a starter is chicken scratch. If you dont have the means and you want your car worked on by "real porsche people" that is just what it costs.

glad it is fixed, hope the price is worth it to you (even if others think its a lot, it only has to make sense to you)

Ya know Ed you really cant blame them for what they charge. I just have ways of doing to cheaper.

I knock the dealer. But honestly, I dont have to go there... and everyone has that same right and choice. I can tell you Im not the cheapest in what I do, In fact I am, I think the most costly computer guy in Erie... and I get 120/hr to get out of my chair and 30$ just to take your 5 min phone call. I dont even get dirty.

If you bought the car new, How much was in 80-90K? If you paid that foir a car you dont have a leg to stand on to bitch about 1100 for a starter.... I think its us 2nd and 3rd owners that knock the dealer more than anyone.

So I really dont have anything against the dealer. But I dont use them either.

I agree, but dont want someone to feel like crap because thaty was the choice they made. $1100 repair vs $300 is a big deal, but if it makes sense to you (i.e. you dont have to get dirty) then I wont be the one to point it out.

I am like you (well except I dont make squat for income) but I am a happy with second hand, get dirty and get the best for my money even if it take 2 weeks and only saves a couple hundred bucks... some people are more comfortable with a trip to the dealer... that's all I was being nice

I'd always try it myself. Does anyone know what it takes to do a heater core in a 99 Beetle? Did it in 2 days with the book from the Library, and 2 hours extra with 1 friend. Got it done, didn't leak. Did it outside in my driveway with my 2 Big German Shepherd Dogs helping me----saved about $800.00
