MPG is a good way to see if the performance of the engine is slipping. A long cruise would be a good time to grade. With nobody following to watch for oil burn or other symptoms of bad valving from exhaust the gas mileage and oil level is all I could think of for him.

If he would of taken the Tar Heels route back I'd venture to say the roller coaster hills would of gotten worse gas milage and be harder to evailuate. BUT, he would of had one heck of a fun time.

I took 40 East to 85 North to 95. The mileage seemed to slip a bit near the border of NC and southern VA with a few hills but then went back up before I refilled in the DC area. PA has some pretty good hills also but the mileage seemed to average out around 26.5 mpg. This was all at an average of about 70 mph.

You get rippling hills (trait of tar hills) north of Lynchburg. I mean up down up down up down for mile after mile. It's a riot of a roller coaster. A guy can get tempted to see if he can get air on the tops.

Glad the cruise went well. Take care of the roads and I'm sure you know about the turnpike cops. Great car you have there.
