Default Finally ...FisterD mod is in!

Recieved my FisterD cans 2 weeks ago from Darin, and managed to do the install today on my 99' 996, on a cold cement garage floor. Tha only slow parts involved removing the rusted nuts and exhaust bolts. I went to the Porsche dealer nearby and was quoted $142. for all the necessary hardware(which included the c-clampsas well). I decided instead to visit my local hardware store, and spent under $20 for new SS nuts and bolts.
Now the good news. My 911 no longer sounds like a sewing machine. It actually sounds like a Porsche! I am very pleased with the mod and feel as though my 911 isn't afraid to be heard in public now. I must be one of the last Rennlist forum members to do this mod, but it certainly was worth the wait.

It's about damn time!
Sounds great doesn't it?
Makes you wonder why anyone would spend $2k for PSE or aftermarket cans.

It's nice and quiet...until you put your foot into it, and at 2,88RPMs and up it makes beautiful music!

You are certainly not the last, but I may be the next! I expect to have the mod done by a friend later this week, and to swap mufflers during the weekend.

Barn996, how long did it take you to remove the originals and install the FisterD mufflers? I know you bought some new hardware, but am asking if there are any Porsche-specific gaskets or clamps needed? My hardware may be OK, since the mufflers have been on for only a year, since the replacement engine was installed.

Any tips, or link to a muffler removal DIY? I need all the help I can get. Thanks.

Basic hand tools,mm ratchets+ wrenches, WD40 or = to spray on any rusted nuts/bolts,something to lay on...if parts are not old and rusty it will be a snap. There is a diagram of our exhaust systems that shows 3 13mm nuts, the various clamps , one for the tailpipe, and one to the cat. If rust is not an issue...30 min ea. side to remove, about the same to reinstall.Mine were very rusty, broke 2 bolts, and struggled with the rest. It's an easy DIY and worth every penney spent(althogh most aftermarkets will also reduce the weight).GL.

Either Tim(he has lots of 996 info) can supply the exhaust diagram, or maybe you can find it in the Renntech location.Lots of forum members have this detail, and may pull it up for you.

Thanks Tim! Just what I was looking for. Kudos to you for an excellent and and well illustrated DIY procedure.

Will report back when the muffler swap has been completed.
