Mark W probbaly bought his 996, drives it and enjoys it so why replace it.
OUCH!

However, I agree completely.

Looks like no matter how much money you have, no one with a 996 is safe from a catastrophic engine failure!
It's great that we have some 993 guys around to watch TMZ for breaking news. Got any updates on The Bachelor or Hana Montana or anything else on your TIVO list as well....

Saw TMZ last night and I thought they did a good job bashing Porsche on the issue. Perhaps something will come of it.

Right.

Who knows, maybe he had jumped a curb earlier trying to avoid the TMZ paparazzi....

First I should tell you that he used to do the oil changes etc. on this car himself but it hasn't been serviced by a dealer in a looooong time, also he hasn't used this car much over the last few years and when he does... he drives the crap out of it!!!

To answer your questions.

1. it seems that someone??? had screwed the drain plug incorrectly and f#@ed up the threads some time ago, it was never fixed and finally popped out.
2. his state of mind about it, "sh@# happens.
3. he has many cars (however since he's no Jay lenno most of them just sit there, only his daily rides get proper servicing) but this was his first brand new 911 and he loves that car.

But no matter which way you slice it...it sucks when this happens, especially on national TV

Cheers guys

Sid.

Was the car driven at all after his drain plug 'popped'...if not he should be fine after 9 qts. of oil, and a new plug.

I think the new drain plug was the updated version.... comes with the "Auto Eject" feature once the oil reaches tar consistancy

Good to hear he was able to repair at minimal cost

Yep he's a kid to my age bracket and friends
Young whippersnappers buying fancy cars like that

What's up with the video? Not that if it were me breaking down that I'd take the shirt off the videoing guys back and clean up the oil since he seemed so concerned with the car misfortune but.... darn give a guy a break. I guess the experiments were right that it turns into a rat race stacking so many people in one place. I wont say the video and website struck me as gay. Really, I wont say that....because I'm a nice guy
