Default protective (padded) car cover?

am relocating to a condo in march and will now be parking in "shared" underground lot.

would like to do what I can to prevent any scratches/door rubs (sides of the car now are pristine).

any recommendations re protective car cover that would offer padded sides, or has anyone modified a car cover in this fashion.

all input appreciated.

Just hide in a corner. My lot doesn't have any corners to hide in but I park in between condo units where other people don't and use my wife's car as a buffer on the side of the larger unit. The only dent I've ever gotten has been from someone at work so what can you do?

Besides, if you're in a nicer neighborhood, people will generally be more careful because they don't want to hurt their cars either.

As for a padded car cover, I've never heard of one, and I would imagine it would be hugely unwieldy to use/store. You're talking about something that's at least 200 square feet and a quarter to half of an inch thick, that would be annoying as all get out.

at a show once I saw a guy who had these large padded things stuck (magnets) to the sides of his car... I thought "thats a good idea"

then I thought, "wonder how much those cost?"

then I thought, they are free.....thats a stupid product!!!

http://dentprotector.com/ these are the biggest ones I have found... and for protection, bigger is better IMO

or the tesla coil

The one dent my car has gotten is in the concave part of the door, where I wouldn't put that dent-guard. No, I don't know how anyone could have made that dent, don't even ask I'll just get upset.

Still, that's a pretty cool product, why didn't I think of that?!

thanks for that....good idea, think i will fashion my own to "custom fit" the car from foam, cover the magnets with thin gauge to prevent scratching.

I lived in a building with cars parked on both sides. I went to an upholstery shop and bought two long pieces of thick foam and attached string to both ends with small rubber ***** on the ends. Place the ***** in the trunk and hood and close. Holds the foam in place (did I mention cheap option?).

Since your car is indoors, I recommend using a flannel lined cover. It's slight thicker than the standard cotton cover, I purchased mine from Auto Chic.
