Happy New Year folks!
I hope its appropriate posting this in the 996 forum vice "off topic" or elsewhere, if not please advise.
So I'm still on my extended business trip, and I'm spending more time on Rennlist and thinking about what the service and upgrade priorities are in 2010. First are 4 new summer tires (thinking Sumitomo HTR III from Tire Rack?) and a trip to my indy shop for a service. The easy mod will be the clear side lights (thanks for the links and info last month, hopefully even I can install them! - yes I can run a nuclear submarine but I can't change my own oil, go figure.) The next contender is the stereo. As my Targa may become a daily driver if I move offices and can't take public transit, I'd like a better sounding stereo with ipod integration. The car has the Bose upgrade that was part of the technic package in '03, but the CD controls are erratic and sometimes the whole system locks up.
Given that I like good quality sound but want to keep this on a budget (under $1000, ideally closer to $600), has anyone upgraded recently or have any recommendations? I have no idea what the market is like so I don't know if speakers and an amp+face are possible at this pricepoint with quality sound, or if I should just start with a new amp and control unit to get the ipod hook up and think about speakers later. I run a pretty good system at home (Acurus, Rotel, B&W's) but I have no illusions about or cash to try to duplicate that in the car. With the Targa wind noise, its a little tough anyway![Cool](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)
Thanks for any ideas!
Lawrence

Happy new year to you as well.
Tip or 6 speed?
As a DD 6 speed can be left in lower gears for more sound. I opted for motor sound over stereo, but understand the need for music.
Good luck on it.
Btw sumis are a great tire for the pricen and we are going have a pig pile on you and make you change that oil yourself. Its super simple!
