LED Tailight Installation
I am upgrading my tail lights to the LED ones for my 2003 996 C2.
Smoked LED tail lights
I didn't get any installation instructions with them as I thought they were pretty much plug and play. Well not so much, I installed the right one and they are not turning on.
I am about to install the left one but thought I would post here to see if anyone has experience with installing these - if it requires any additional wiring that I am not aware of.
I tried searching yesterday and the day before but couldn't find anything on our website.

Cool, be sure to post pics. I thought of doing this before, but I think it's kind of lame that they make better looking LED tail lights for the Boxster, & they happen to be less than half of the 996 ones.

What I would however like to see is all red tail lights on a 996 like they sell for the 997:
I'm thinking of getting red tint spray & doing, but I'd rather let someone else be the guinea pig first incase it looks ugly.

Post pics/vid when done. Crazy bout Boxster being better, I like them better too. I wish they made em like the 997.2 ones.
They should just plug and go, after removing the couple bolts. Shud be much easier than a HID headlight convertion would be. Maybe flawed tail lights? I changed some over for a buddy on a 2005 Mustang a year ago. Just removed and replaced, took maybe 20 minutes.

^Ed, I think you should be the guinea pig for the red tail lights on a 996. I mean you do have a black car, we all know black & red just "goes" together... Plus you have a GT2 wing that doesn't fit that'll go great with the red tails too.

You'll be suprised, I thought it was suppposed to be pretty easy BUT mine are not working. On this item listing on ebay, they say "professional installation is highly recommended"?? It is pretty straight forward on which plugs go into which sockets but they are not workng.....
Anyone have any experience installing these on a 996? OR Have the installation instructions??

^^ Keep in mind that LED lights are affected by the polarity, so the only reason that I have seen where they do nothing at all is when you need to reverse the wires, or (if it's just one bulb) flip the bulb.
It is very common for me to pop in a bulb and it does nothing, then just flip it over and it works fine.
Now, if the light you bought already has a harness, and you really can't change the wires, then I can't see why it wouldn't work, unless you blew the fuse while you were trying to install them.

I tried flipping over the plugs and checked the fuses and that's not it.
There are 5 plugs, the two inner most (closest to engine) are turn signal(top) and tail/brake light(bottom). The LED assembly allow for the two stock bulbs to be used, so I kept the stock bulbs in there and they work just fine.
The 5th one, that is furthest from the engine - closest to the wheel well is the fog light. They say not to plug those into anything that they are already incorporated into the LED lights.
So that leaves bulb sockets 3 and 4 - the turn signal LED(top) and the tail/brake light LED (bottom). I have those plugged into those respective places but nothing. So I am guessing this is where some wizardry would be needed? Can you be specific on the wiring? I am a novice when it comes to wiring and such.

IIRC the LED tail lights triggered a fault on 2003+ cars because of the lower wattage. I remember looking at the LED tail lights on ebay and they said they were for 1999-2002 cars only.
