Hi everyone,
It was a while ago since I did a post but I'm sure you are willing to help me anyway![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I bought a -99 C2 last spring and it has currently gone about 55k miles. I've done a big service on it, changing brake oil, filters, rear brake discs etc and I'm very happy with it, works great and RMS was checked when I bought it. Lovely car.
Anyway, now to my question. I've been thinking of upgrading to a C4S, something like this:
http://www.bytbil.com/bilar/begagnad...Y25fPQo0cwAsKA!
Translation:
47k miles
~63k $USD
I've searched the forums and so far people are complaining about weight and that 4WD aint that useful. And since I'm only driving the car during April -> Oct I dont really use it when there is snow here (in Sweden). And I dont drive the car on any track (currently) since I don't have the time right now. I just want to use the car during the "warm" months.
So what do you think? I get about 39k $USD for my C2 here. Should I do the upgrade? Will the experience greartly improve, and how much of a difference is it for service costs? Discs etc?
Thanks in advance
/David

For the average person the C4S may be a better overall car than your '99 C2, but it is NOT $23,000 USD better. No way. I vote you should stick with what you have, keep your $23k in the bank... or at least find a cheaper mk2 to upgrade to.

Yes, you should upgrade. And wouldn't you know it, my C4s is for sale, only in the country of Sweden. Price is right at $45K USD. Even has a fresh engine practically. :-)

Most are Swedish or German imports, my C2 is originally imported from Germany.

The way to think of the C4s is that it's a turbo, without the turbo engine. The chassis is a turbo chassis, brakes, etc.
You get grip w/ the C4s at the penalty of weight. There is a difference in how nimble it feels, but to be honest, the difference isn't night and day (to me at least).
To me, it's worth it. Before I got the C4s, I was originally going to get a C2, but by the time I added in the full leather and a couple of options, I was at the C4s pricepoint. I think the C4s is more special, and I love the look.
I'd imagine the AWD (even in its most docile configuration as it is on the Porsche) is helpful up north.

no differences in maintainence costs really. Replacing parts are more expensive since they're turbo parts (brake pads, suspension components, etc). The engine maintainence is the same. Added cost for differential fluid replacement, but that's about it.
Tires are more expensive, since they're wider but not significantly.

Yea, I agree. The chassis is the biggest reason to get one, but since I dont really drive in any "up north" conditions, the AWD shouldnt really matter. What about the expenses for services etc, compared to C2? I've heard that it is a big difference in yearly costs, if you want to maintain it good (and of course you do)

You've said a number of times that you have no use for AWD, can you explain what advantages of the C4S you are interested in? Might make assessing whether or not it is worth it a little easier.

IMHO, save and get a turbo that way you have the aesthetics, HP and not the things you don't need.
