Default Chiming - won't stop - drains battery

Hello all,

Forgive my lack of technical knowledge...but I'm sure you can help!

When I turn off the ignition to get out of the car the chiming ping keeps going even though there are no lights etc. left on. However, the digital read-out that shows mileage etc. won't go off.

The battery drains if the car is not driven for 24 hrs.

I think it may be the ignition barrel (?) - the bit where the key goes in - as when I start the car, in order to get the electrics to work properly I have to turn the key back to the left a fraction, which is a recent "glitch".

Is there a specific fuse I can remove to stop the digital readout from showing until I get it fixed?

Or more worryingly, is it something simple stupid that I'm missing. I can't believe that the digital read-out can be draining the battery on its own!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks RR,

I thought it would be something relatively simple.

Now to find someone who knows how to replace it!

Thanks again.

Are you sure the lights are in the off position? That would be the only thing that I can think of that would cause the chime to go off when the key is out.

Sort of along these lines, do you guys ever hear the car beep every so often? Not that weird horn phenomenon I've read about, rather an aftermarket head unit type of beep? Often I will work on various projects in the garage, next to the car, and at random times it will make the beeping sound I mentioned. The doors are shut tight (not locked), the key is not in the ignition (but in the car), and the stereo faceplate is secured. It does not seem to have any effect on the battery. The car is a 2001 model C2.
