Question Flashing Oil Level

Last night when I turned on the ignition the computer oil level check read only one 'flashing' bar!!
<heart fluttered>

Tried it two more times switching the ignition on and it did the same thing.
I manually checked the dipstick twice and the oil level was perfect.
Hmm. Carefully drove home with no problems; temp fine/pressure fine.

A month ago at high speed my oil pressure sending unit seemed to be on the blink, then corrected itself with no more occurrences.
Haven't had a chance to take it in for warranty check. Now this; any relation?

Going to see if it does it again today ..

I tried a search here but any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

parked on a level surface?

Nice to have a dipstick to fall back on (unlike newer models). I have heard of sensor (or is it sender) problems. I was driving along this summer when the oil light came on in the display! Since I did not have a cloud of smoke behind me, I was not too concerned. It is possible your erroneous reading will go away and not come back (like mine did).

PS: I my electronic and dipstick have never really matched. In my case the electronic has always read higher. Perhaps you just have the opposite problem. In this case, even Porsche relies on the dipstick first; electronic second.

If you park with the left side of the car lower than the right the sensor will read lower than it is. The opposite is true as well.

You have to park it on a level surface to get an accurate reading.

Indeed the opposite. It's always read about two bars lower than the dipstick ..

Interesting, Dave!
There may have been a slight downward pitch while parked at the left curb face of a one-way street ..
Much appreciated!

That level is no big deal. I use a lot of oil in my engine and see that scenario quite routinely. When that bottom line starts to flash consistently, then add 1 quart. It should put you back to the top line again. This is no big deal. I see that roughly every 1500 miles!
