Default Is there a DIY magnetic spark plug socket?

Those magnetic 13/16" spark plug sockets (which I hear make the job much easier) are $50 from some of the "regular" Pcar parts houses.
Is there a cheap one out there? Or has someone made a DIY version?

Here is the one I use. I got from Sears after wrestling with deep plugs on Audis. The nice thing is the spark plug socket and the extension bar are permanently attached via a ball socket. They allow for angled access, etc. Not too bad at $45. Or you could spot weld sockets, knuckles, and extension bars together. Not sure if it would be that much cheaper.

Hey, that's great! A few bucks cheaper than the socket alone, and it includes three of them, with extensions and swivels. Gonna go pick one up today.

Have you used this one specifically on your 996?

If I remember correctly from my plug change you need for everything to come apart to even get the socket out of the rear holes. Based on first hand experience I'm not certain that setup would work.

I used 3 different extensions, a universal joint and a standard plug societ with the rubber insert to do my plug change. It's an exercise of patience.

Hmm , well, maybe I'll just buy the piece parts. I've got all the swivels and extensions, just need the magnetic socket (have a rubber one, but don't like how it works on even easy to reach plugs).
