Default New 2001 Cab owner Questions

Just picked up a 2001 Cab for my wife which will lead to the sale of my 1991 Targa in a week or so... But it's different and has some issues:

Has the Litronic headlamps. The large outer lens is a bit loose at the top and leaks water. Anyone know what sealant needs to be used?

Is there a bumper / front end scrape protector? I installed a stainless steel bar bought on eBay for the 1991 and its great but wont fit this

Is there a protector plate for under the engine area? Want to keep it from contacting speed bumps

Also... It has factory chrome turbo twists and I want to get the later straight spoke painted wheels... Anyone have a source?

Factory stereo w/ no cd changer. What have folks put in to replace it....

Thanks in advance... Very excited about the new adoption

There is a factory engine protection plate. Do a "search", on the banner at the top of the page between "new posts" and "quick links" ,on this forum you will get multiple hits.
Others will chime in on your other Qs.
I have not seen posts on problems with the litronics leaking at the lense seals? Does the light fill with water? Have you removed it to get a good look at the problem area?

Add an iPod cable from Becker and you won't really need a cd changer.

Welcome to Rennlist!

If you join Rennlist you can access the classifieds and find some wheels there or just watch the forums since they come up for sale.

Ba careful of the wheels on ebay, many knockoffs (some are good) and Chinese made items

WELCOME

I guess no way to take it back where you got it and have them fix the light?
On 6speed, there are guys taking these apart and painting the insides, you might be able to search and find out how they do it but IIRC you bake the light @ ~ 200 degrees, watching it closely and the front lens will enevtually come loose, then clean all the parts and just RTV (or whatever glue) it back in place..

just trying to do it without taking it apart will be a never ending battle

Lots of good engine plates. make sure it has a drain hole for the oil

Chrome wheels ? Man I hope you got a dicount for those

- I dont listen to much radio, so cant offer suggestions...

Post some pictures
(of the car.....I swear I wasnt thinking THAT!)

WHAT, NO PICS?

Ahem! <Tim clears his throat>

Msark,

Welcome to Rennlist and contrats on getting a nice looking cab! Or at least I THINK it is nice looking, but can't really be sure since you didn't post any pics. It is customary for Newbies to tell us a little about their car and to post pics. So consider this to the your "Newbie Initiation!"

Come on Newbie, post the !@#$%^&* pics!

Again, Welcome to Rennlist!

Phil, thanks for the "heads up!"

I put a skid plate on my 997S. I would imagine it will fit a 996. Do a search about that on the 997 forum. Edgy01 author.

No need for the engine plate protector unless you have changed the suspension and as a result the car sits a little lower. Never came close to hitting a speed bump when going over a bump, unless of course you have no plans on slowing down.

Pic's soon so you can admire the unique metalic green..... Am also going to add a hard top since they are around the So. Calif area for about 500.00.... Decided to leave the radio as is but want to get more info on just what sort of Becker Cable I need for the iPod... Wheels... Bad but factory delivered it this way. I'll look for the instructions to remove the light assembly and then look for a proper sealant... Now I need to get my 1991 Targa up for sale since I have the cab.....

Look in the manual for headlight remove instructions. Basically pull back the “rug” on the side that you want to remove, there is a black rubber grommet with a **** on it. Pull out the grommet and insert the wrench from the tool kit (about 10mm tubular steel wrench with a swivel handle) with the handle pointing towards the rear, turn the wrench 180 deg towards the front of the car. The light will move forward and pop out. Be ready to catch it, some fly out some ease out; just don’t catch it on the bounce.
