Default Places to look for a 996?

I'm in the market for a 03-04 C4S and have been looking at autotrader.com & Craigslist (along with the classifieds here and on 6speedonline to see what's available. Can you folks recommend any other places where I should look?

I'm located in Victoria, BC, Canada so locations in the Northwest would work better for me.

just stick with Craigslist - it's the only one with action these days

Save a bookmarked search for 996 on your browser for speedy access.

I found my 996 whilst sitting at the lights, searching on my cellphone.

Post had been on Craigslist 10 mins, I was the first caller - got first shout.

got mine off craigslist... I wanted to buy one off a private seller with good records. The couple of cars I went to look at off carbuyers were beat up or sold by a dealer who had no records.

I posted mine FS on Rennlist, Autotrader, and Panorama. It sold in a week from the ad on Rennlist. I always feel that with Craigslist, you have to throw in a prostitute or something to clinch the sale.

Don't be rude, they prefer to be called 'escorts' these days.

I'll have to look closer at Craigslist to get one of these deals!

Looks like Craigslist is favoured by the folks here (heh, who can blame them since an escort is thrown in)!!!

Anyone have any luck with eBay? I see quite a few on sale there, but am reticent about buying sight unseen. Anyway, thanks for all the responses so far and keep them coming in.

You might be able to search Porsche dealer used car inventory at Porsche USA web site.

Or locate Porsche dealerships within an acceptable radius of where you are and save links to their used car inventory and use the links to check for candidate 996s.

Autotrader good. I know though that not all Porsche (or other) dealer offered used Porshes show up on Autotrader. Which is why I suggested you try to search Porsche dealership used car inventory.

Check PCA (Porsche Club America) cars for sale web site. Also, pick up a copy of Excellence (USA published indy Porsche mag) and check its 996s for sale ads.

Arrange every Sunday to visit major chain bookstore or newstand and pick up Sunday papers from major metro areas within a reasonable distance from you and check used car ads. For instance I see used Porsches (dealer offered and private sales) all the time in the SF Chronicle paper.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I'm in Vancouver, bought a 996 earlier this year - I trolled Craigslist mostly, and was zeroing in on one in San Fransisco when my car popped up at a dealership in Bellingham WA. A member here put me on to it. It was advertised also on cars.com....that's a good resource as well.

If you're in Victoria you want to be looking at craigslist for Seattle, Portland, SF Bay and LA. Those places are easy to import from. I bought my first 996 out of the Chicago area, the car was advertised here on the Rennlist classifieds. I was lucky because my parents flew out and drove it home for me otherwise it would have been a bear to get it home.

Whatya looking for? I love hunting down Porsches.
