Question Ignition coil for 996

Hi,

I'm new here on the site. I have a Porsche 996 Carrera 4 2000 58000miles

I'm getting ready for my 60 000 mile service (to do myself) and I'm shopping for ignition coils, since they seem to be the most expensive part of the service.
I've read about the coils starting with the serial number 996 and the ones starting with 997. I read that the 997's were the newest ones on the market. Is there a difference?
I found a good deal on Ebay for the 997's for about $300, has anybody found a better deal anywhere?

Ignition coils on 996s rarely go bad. After working in Porsche dealerships for 3 years I've only replaced one coil on a 996. I'd say just replace the plugs and don't worry about it.

At 90K miles I found one of the coils cracked and another showing signs of cracking so I replaced all 6. Purchased from Suncoast in FL. I don't think they were bad since the new ones did not really make a difference.

Don't need to worry about them until your car starts having issues when it's wet outside, or if you're big on preventative maintenance.

Thanks guys,
I got the coils and replaced them. The car is running perfect now. I ended up getting the coils for $279 (a set of 6) on Ebay

Hi,
My friend who has a 996 2002 Turbo wanted to buy the same coils as I did (Carrera 4 2000). They look like the ones he has on his car. Is there any difference?
The prices on the set went down to $239, so the price is good.
