I just did my A6 lenses:
1. 800, 1200 & 1500 sanding wet to remove all the old clearcoat & scratches
2. Meguiars Swirl X & Polish with a DA
3. Re-seal with UV varnish (Helsmpar Gloss I think) mixed 50:50 with minneral spirits ane applied with a folded paper towel.

They looked way better after the polish but the re-sealing really brings them up to looking like new. if you dont re-seal they will yellow much faster.

If you do go down the spray paint clear coat route, be sure to not polish the lenses before you paint. I polished them until they were perfect. Once I sprayed the clear coat, the wax in the polish messed it up. I had to use acetone to get the clear coat off, which hazed up the lens again, thus it needed to be completely redone.

Good point following the polishing I cleaned mine down with panel wipe to remove all polishing residue before sealing.

Cool

There is a difference between headlight lens (as stated originally), and headlight cover, which now seems to be how this old thread has matriculated.

The browning spots on the headlight lens cannot be cleaned or removed for cleaning as they sealed inside the body of the headlight unit. They are simply "age spots" from the bulb inside. Just make sure you have the exact bulbs in there so they don't worsen quickly. The stronger bulbs cause accellerated brown spots.

The headlight COVER can be polished out as discussed above, unless the problem is INSIDE the cover.

After polishing to remove the oxidation using the 3M kit from Autozone, I applied plastic overlays ordered from Eckler's (800-327-4868), which fit perfectly. Boom...a permanent fix.

wow! this is some great info. Since I daily drive my 996, the lens covers have both become quite yellow over time. I figured there was nothing I could do about it other than buy new headlights = EXPENSIVE! This thread is being saved.
