Default Anyone else get rid of their 996 engine undertray

I have not had the back section of the undertray (closest to the engine) on since I owned it. My mechanic told me, similar to the 993 and 964 trays, it holds heat in and causes issues. Since I don't track the car and spend very much time in triple digit speeds, it is better to keep the engines cooler.

Doesn't the fact that our engines are watercooled make this less of an issue than with the 964/993s?

Actually, if you idle your car in traffic, you can see the temp needle go up to the right of the "0." I have never seen this issue brought up so...

since removing the undertray, does your car not heat up as much in stop and go traffic? is it left of the "0" now?

I cleaned the radiator two years ago and noticed better cooling right away. It would clear "0" to the right before and would not after cleaning. Since my ECU flash this spring, the radiator fan comes on sooner - when the needle is in the middle of the "0" so I have never seen it move to the right of that position since. Prior to the flash, I would notice that the fan would not kick in even if the needle is on the right side of the "0."

My post was to ask if anyone else have done it. My engine is completely dry from day one so I am just asking around and commenting.

I don't have any under tray under any part of my engine. Do you have a part number?

I didn't know 996s came with an engine undertray. Really? Or is this a joke?

The tray came out with the 964 and continue with the 993. It is strictly to trap engine valvetrain noise. Nothing to do with aerodyanmic or protection. Just take a look at under a Porsceh factory cup car, no trays. So makes sense the water cooled engine have no tray, they don't make nearly as much noise as the air cooled cars.

Its more of the cabin undertray now that I am looking at it. Where the Clutch and gearbox starts. The small piece before the rear wheels and not under the engine.

Why are people so worried about motor cooling (without premise), all of a sudden?

Really?...hmm, is your mechanic a Porsche Certified Technician that is currently employed and trained through a Porsche dealership?
