Question on the "hack" : Because I have a bad/ loose baffle (or who knows what) inside the muffler, won't that have to be repaired? How hard is it for a muffler shop to diagnose/repair something like that? Or should I get a used OEM driver side unit and have the hack done at that time? Is there a "long version" of the hack for more details? Do you have this done at any muffler shop or is it a detailed operation?

I'll continue looking for good used (cheap!) ss exhausts as well. Anyone selling?
it all depends on how much louder you want the car to be. If not any louder.....buy a used set of stock cans. I for one have a low mileage 1999 21k set of 3.4 oem cans. Others here also have stock mufflers for your 01 that will probably sell

If you want performance - for reasonable price look at AfterHours Muffler or M&K exhaust. These will provide better sound and less weight than a hacked up OEM solution. Or look at GHL, Fabspeed Tubi and pay much more.

or you can do the hack....

Somewhere on some thread in a Galaxy far far away, somebody probably said they put ONE muffler by-pass pipe on one side of his Porsha. Said the sound was perfect! Two bypass pipes are too loud. Some got on his case about the 40lbs less weight on one side.....he said with a driver in the car there was 200lbs more weight on one side anyway. He had a point. Buy a pair, try putting it on one side, check it out....I may buy the other one.

For $200 each, anybody try adding one of these things? Potentially easier to rig up than the factory vacuum operated system:

kind of a good idea, but its not built for Porsche... so its a "universal" which IMO lends to lots of fit up issues and "Jerry Rigging" it to work. Nice looking stuff - looks quality

$400 gamble and then start "messing around" - no thanks

A lot of money, plus not a lot of room to work with down there. Exhaust sounds so good, why would you ever want to turn it off

I've seen a couple of links to actual dyno results. From Fabspeed I see http://www.fabspeed.com/996_GT3_dyno1.html . There aren't a lot of details about this picture (headers, cats, mufflers, everything), but if I were to guess that everything was done, is it saying that for almost 3K you get 16 hp?

One of the usuals at our weekly coffee get-togethers had a similar situation; bad baffle. He purchased a set of stock mufflers and had them Fister-ized. They sound great, and are high value IMO

Order a set of Fister-modded cans from Darin and send him your cans on trade. He might take the one with a loose baffle. Alternatively, you could simply buy the modded cans from Darin and keep yours. Easy decision either way.

I believe Arnee has 200 cell cats and Fister modded cans. That would be an option as well if the cans are too tame.
