Default HELP! "check failure" oil warning came on.. ???

ok, so driving my 02 c2 down the freeway.. the following popped up

(i believe anyway.. it went away quickly): "check failure" and the oil can symbol.

my oil pressure bounced from 5-1, then leveled off at just below 5. i pulled off freeway to restart, check oil level, etc. all was well. pressure was 2 at idle.

no check engine lights.. also, just had oil change. was able to drive, but oil pressure seemed to be high and fluctuated at frwy speeds from 4-5 at same rpm with cruise control on.

thank god for cpo... off to dealer in the am.

WTF? anyone else have anything like this happen?

Probably your oil pressure sensor is going bad. DoO a search on "sensor" and you'll find a recent (last 2 to 3 weeks, IIRC) thread in this.

Yup, same exact thing happened to me. Oil pressure sensor (sending unit on passenger side of the engine) went on the fritz. Replaced by dealer. CPO warranty covered it. There is a great thread on this with pictures and a DIY. Don't worry, it's not that big a deal as long as you get it fixed reasonably quickly so that you can trust your oil pressure gauge again.
