Default I get out of my car to see this...."video"

Coolant leaking right below the coolant tank. I'm going to take a guess after reading all the threads on cracked coolant tanks, this may be my problem. I started smelling a faint odor of coolant but never noticed a leak until today.

Its a 2002 911 Targa with 33,900 miles. It has the long coolant tank, I guess the one that's a real pain to swap out? I can't see where its leaking from anywhere. I was under it today swapping out my mufflers too. Maybe I bumped a weak hose, but doubt it.

Classic coolant tank cracking. Time for a replacement. It's a 2002 so I'd say you were on borrowed time anyway. My tank was replaced at 5 years old. It's a PITA to replace as it's a large piece (think iceberg). Personally, I'd pay the couple hours of labor to have it done.

If labor is only $200.00 bucks I'm not changing it myself. I noticed my car has a spin on oil filter too. That's not factory is it?

I'll go grab a pic, it looks like a typical oil filter. I bought the car April 27, 2009

Sounds good. I'll be online for about another 1/2 hour anyway.

Did you know when the last oil change was done on the car? That's one of the first things I do anyway regardless so I know exactly how long the oil (and miles) has been in the car.

I'm not sure about the oil, should be able to find out. This car was a friend of a friends, he bought it in '05 with 25k miles on it. I bought it in '09 with 31k

Does this look like a regular filter or just a cover. I was imagining the oil filter would look like my old boxster.

That's the stock oil filter cartridge cover. And it's the same as the boxster

BTW, there seems to be some oil seepage (?) collecting around the drain plug. I would clean the sump cover really good, replace the oil and while doing that replace the oil drain plug with new as well. Get the torque specs right and you should be good to go. Keep an eye on it and make sure it's nothing.

By the way, when you bought it, did you get a full PPI done by an independent mechanic?

It looks right. The can is just that .......a can. The can is un-screwed, you pull the filter down, replace it with new and re-use the can.

Ok, for some reason I was thinking the cartridge went up into the motor and had a flat cover. The Box was a few years back. I didn't get a PPI because I wanted the car in '05 and let it get away, probably should have.

that vid clearly shows a bad muffler tip - a new set of by-pass pipes is all you need !!

As you commented in the video, that truly is one of the MOST exciting videos I've ever seen on YT

Good luck with the repair.
