Default Rear center console interchangeable between all 986 and 996 cars?

I'm pretty sure they do, but just want to make sure that you can take a 986 rear center console and swap it into a 996 (99-01 and 02+). TIA!

Dell, here is a picture of mine partially installed. It certainly appears identical. When I was shopping for a donor car, I was told by the salvage yards that they were interchangeable.

Thanks Mark. I am 99.99% sure they are interchangeable between years. Maybe somebody like Eric (bumperplugs) would know best since he sells these types of things (painted all nice and all).

I think the 996 has an extension at the rear where the Boxster console hits the fire wall.

Correct, the trim inserts on the side at the rear are longer but IIRC the console is the same size across all.

Here is a photo of the back of a 996 console for reference.

Thanks aron. The coupe has the extra trim pice in the very back and the side pieces are longer. Just trying to figure out if the console is longer or not. I seem to recall not but will wait for 100% confirmation.

Dell, why not measure the console in your 996 cab?... or did you sell that too?

If you haven't sold it, then I'll say this for you..... DOH!

Tim, the console in the CAB is the same as the 986. I have a local friend that is coming over tonight for a beer and he has a C4S coupe so I'll verify his.

Are you kidding, if I touch that CAB, the wife would kill me!

Yes, they will ALL fit, same years/models...ALL 986 and ALL 996 take the same unit.

Yes, the consoles are the same. The coupe has the longer rear side panels and an additional plastic "box" extension that is just screwed to the back end. There is also a small cover behind the armrest on the coupes, but the base console is the same.
