I am looking at buying a low mileage 01 Carrera 2. I have had two 964's and one 911sc so I am looking at my first water cooled car. How are the cars as far as body rigidity rattles etc? I have read some issues about rattles in some of the cars but can't remember if that was a 996 or 997. The other question I have is about an Aero Kit, I see that Pelican Parts have them for around 6500 but there is a cutoff of 7/01 as far as being compatable. Do I need to know a build date on a 2001 or is 07/01 a cutoff for the 2001 model year? Thanks

At Drodg,
There are 2 aero kits available for the 996 lineup. MK1 and MK2. The key is the the MY02 cars got a facelift that uses new headlights requiring a new bumper shape. Any 99-01 MY car is going to work with the MK1 Aero Kit which will make the car look like a MK1 GT3 which the US never got. 02+ cars will need the MK2 Aero kit which makes it look like your typical US 996 GT3.
The only real rattle that I can think of is when the sunroof is open. There are some write ups around on how to silence it by replacing some pads and adding some additional padding.

My sunroof rattles when it is closed, especially if I go over bumps or railroad tracks.
It doesn't really do it when the roof is open.

Thanks everyone, btw does anyone have a MKI Aero kit that they never used? I can buy a Porsche MK1 package but I have to buy in pieces, I got an email from a Porsche dealer in Florida Suncoast I think. The package has been discontinued by Porsche and the price has jumped with buying it in individual pieces.
