Default Center Console Delete Questions

Thinking of doing the "center console delete." I would like a bit more room. I also miss the long line of the dash in my old 1984 Targa.

The available kit looks like it fills in the missing parts well. 2 questions:

1. Is the extra room significant for right leg movement?

2. Where do you place the seat heater switches?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2001 C2

answers:

1. Yes, without a doubt.
2. Technically you relocate the controls back into the dash, above the radio. However, this is significant challenge if you have an updated sound system. It works much better with the base sound.

Thanks Chad.

I have the stock Becker sound system. The seat heater switches are well below everything else that moves up after the console is removed.

Still not sure if these 2 seat heater switches have to go somewhere else.

I'm planning this job as well. Seems like lot's of spots for the seat switches though....either alongside the radio, or there's two spots behind the ashtray isn't there?

I did this in my C4s and my Boxster. I love everything about it. It does allow you to swing your leg over to one side which helps if you are a taller driver. I also had an 80's 911 and it brings back the straight dash. The heated seat switches reach comfortably into the bottom two positions (which were blank on my C4S) without having to extend the wiring. I did the work myself and it is not too hard. Just take your time. There are very good instructions available somewhere on this or the boxster fourm. Good luck.

Only caveat, if it hadn't been for my center console, I think I would have fallen out of my seat at my last DE. I used it to help hold me in the seat by propping my right leg against it in turns. Stock seats and belts of course.

I was just thinking the same thing! LOL. I use it as my "harness". The bruise on my right knee from Thunderbolt will attest to that.

Thanks for all the above comments. Looks like I will be doing the modification.

I am glad there are others who like the long dash line look as well.

My car has the center console delete... and I didn't think much of it. But then I drove a car with the stock center console - much less room for my right leg!!! And I'm not a big guy.

From my old toy. A VERY worthwhile mod IMO.

Another shot:

I'd like to do this, too, but I don't quite understand it--what exactly am I buying if I get the "kit"? Seems like you're only removing parts, not adding anything...

You get the "V" shaped carpeted piece that mounts further back up under the dash, the bracket to hold it and a plastic trim piece that goes in front of the shifter. Otherwise when you remove the console there is a small area of exposed floorboard ans some exposed wires. It is only about $125.

This is going to be my next 'easy' mod me thinks.

You need to get a CG-Lock. This device will keep your seatbelt 'locked'. Great for DE and track days and keeps you in the seat. Check out their 'autocross/de' link.
