Question Compatibility when replacing CDR-210 stereo with a 3rd Party 1DIN stereo?

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a decent 1DIN car stereo which does Aux In, Bluetooth music, Bluetooth handsfree for my '99 996. Is there an industry standard on the behind-the-stereo connectors and the slide-in harness? I mean if I buy a 3rd party stereo, is it as simple as pulling out the factory one, plugging in the rear cables into the new one and the sliding the new one in?

If not, what are the variables and what techniques are generally used to make them compatible?

I searched for this but mostly got results of folks showing off their custom installs without much details on HOW it was installed...

Cheers
Sid

Check with Crutchfield to see if they have a kit. (I think they do)
You need a wiring harness, the mounting hardware and the trim.

Blaupunkt has the same wiring standard so they're plug and play. Otherwise there is an adapter that goes from RCA outputs to the factory standard.
